ICS and NIMS training
At the last meeting the topic of ICS and NIMS training was mentioned. Many organizations such as Tarrant County RACES are now requiring ICS and NIMS training for those who wish to participate. Since CERT is organized locally under the principles of ICS, and can be included in large incidents under NIMS, it is a good idea for all CERT members to be knowlegeable in both ICS and NIMS.
FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI) provides courses in ICS and NIMS online. The following courses are recommended:
- Introduction to Incident Command System, IS-100
- ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, IS-200
- National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction, IS-700
- National Response Plan (NRP), An Introduction, IS-800
Upon completion of each course and its exam, EMI will issue a PDF completion certificate by email. Please send your completion certificates to me when you complete a course so I can add it to your CERT training records (you may either print it and bring it to a meeting or forward the file to me).
