This program trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations so they can assist with hazards that may impact Keller. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members will be prepared to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also involved in non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
The 10-week course provides participants with hands-on learning including Fire Department demonstrations and familiarization, an engine and ladder demonstration, a station tour, a tour of a medic unit and a disaster simulation.
